There was about a 20 minute period when Gargraves made stainless steel Standard Gauge track with plastic ties, which would have worked outside with some UV paint on the ties. Not that you'd want to take rust-prone tinplate cars outside on any but the sunniest days.

Recently received this Ives 550 baggage from a neighbor for safe-keeping. This looks to be from the 1916-1922 time-frame:

At the outside it could be 100 years old...I hope I look this good should I get there.

550's seem to be fairly common, so I'm not too anxious about it. Definitely looks better than the original gray.

I did a bit more research on this car. Many of the four-wheel versions were punched for door-guides, but the doors were not installed. I've only ever seen one four-wheel 550 with doors. Most of the eight-wheel versions have them.

Lot's of refurb here, so little collector value (good for operator though). Runs and looks great. I need to find a 552 parlor car though...

A nice little Ives 3252 showed up today, acquired from my friends down at Vienna Station:

The color is unfamiliar to me, but Ray tells me it is likely an older restoration. It's a strong runner, and I have a set of 60-series freights that will line up nicely behind it. The 3252 features a manual reverse, unlike the 3250 and the 3251 which are forward-only (at least that's how I understand it after reading old Ives catalogues).

Still learning about this Ives stuff.
